Plenary Session - The Price of Prevention: Access and Affordability in a Changing Health Economy From the rising costs of life-saving medications, the shifting terrain of insurance coverage, and the ever-changing landscape of practice models and value-based care across urban and rural landscapes, the United States stands at a crossroads in determining the future of access, healthcare affordability, disease prevention, medical practice, and innovation. This plenary begins with a high-level view of the healthcare system interacting parts and moves on to examine the current state of policy across these parts shaping who gets care, when, and at what cost as well as physician contracts and practice. Leaders in medicine, policy, and industry will highlight opportunities for and barriers to aligning system incentives, prioritizing disease prevention, strengthening affordability, enhancing patient and physician experience, and facilitating innovation in the interacting parts of the system that leads to healthier communities rather than deeper inequities. Attendees will gain insight into how the convergence of science, practice, industry, health economics, and policy can be harnessed to secure a sustainable, prevention-centered future for all. |
